Developed to establish Albuquerque as a locus for national and international cycling events, the project will become an integral part of the Albuquerque Sports Complex that also includes the UNM Arena and Stadium and the Isotopes Baseball Stadium. Kells + Craig, in collaboration with associate architect, G. Donald Dudley, developed a master plan that co-locates a world-class velodrome and BMX track around a pedestrian plaza. The two tracks will share concessions, administrative offices, training facilities and other support facilities. The design of the buildings and their detailing incorporates steel tubing, metal siding and steel cables that reference the imagery of cycling technology. Phase I, the BMX Pavilion was completed in 2007.
