Completed: 1998
Cost: $2.6 million
This
23,000 s.f. community center was the first entirely new community
center to be built in the city in 10 years and the largest until
1998 to be built at one time. The center is located at Phil
Chacon Park, a 50 acre multi-use park, and serves five neighborhoods
representing a wide variety of socioeconomic and ethnic groups.
The design incorporates a generous sky lit circulation
spine from which all the major functions are accessed and supervised.
These include a meeting room, classrooms, computer lab, weight
room and a full sized gymnasium.
