NAVAJO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Albuquerque Public Schools
Completion Date - 2005
Construction Cost— $2.0 million

The 13 classroom building replaced three of the school’s original "temporary" pods that dated from the 1960s. The paired wedge-shaped classrooms were developed to maximize the number of classrooms that could be located within the available space, facilitate team teaching, provide cross ventilation and solar access, and accommodate classes that often work in small groups.  The new building forms the south side of a new central campus plaza. In addition to providing a social gathering area and shade, the building’s portal serves as a covered walkway between the existing administration/cafeteria and gymnasium buildings.
