The
fourth major community center to be designed by Kells + Craig
since 1995, primary spaces include a full size gymnasium, multi-purpose
and meeting rooms, a commercial kitchen, computer and craft classrooms,
and an exercise room. The building is organized along a curved
interior street, which follows a path that previously existed
on the site between an adjacent park and a shopping center. The
lobby, located at the juncture of the street and the entry court
forms a village square while providing for easy and unobtrusive
supervision of the building.
The
building’s bold masses and minimalist forms and coloration
form a landmark within the community while also referring to their
suburban context. The long curved facade along Taylor Ranch Road
recalls the walls that line many of the surrounding streets. The
overall color of the building reflects the mission tiles of the
adjoining shopping center. The building opened in the fall of
2004. The Project is a recipient of a 2005 “Best Buildings
award from the Associated General Contractors.
